Dr. Sweet is an Associate Professor of Business Administration at North Carolina Wesleyan University and the Program Coordinator for Masters of Strategic Leadership, Business Administration, and Organizational Leadership Programs. She primarily teaches Management and Leadership courses. Some of her favorite courses to teach are Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, Social Innovation and Community Engagement, Transformational Leadership, Servant Leadership, and Organizational Leadership. Dr. Sweet has also served as an Adjunct Professor at St. Augustine University, Strayer University, & Colorado Technical University. Additionally, Dr. Sweet provides consulting services for start-ups and nonprofit organizations through the Small Business Centers in Eastern, North Carolina.

Dr. Sweet is the founder of Sweet Research Consulting Firm, LLC. She has worked with numerous organizations, providing effective training and one on one coaching to improve performance outcomes, morale, and productivity. While providing consulting services to small businesses, Dr. Sweet saw a reoccurring problem and a gap between culture and productivity. Through intensive research, need assessments, and observation, it was determined these small businesses were focused only on operations management and not on people. Dr. Sweet’s philosophy is “if you want a better business, you must start with your people”. She teaches organizations how to create value that help employees be productive at work, from the moment they are hired to the moment they leave.

Dr. Sweet is a native of North Carolina and a product of the Edgecombe County Public School System. She received a B.A. in Criminal Justice at her beloved alma mater, North Carolina Wesleyan University. Understanding her call to public service, and the community, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, with a concentration in Government from Keller Graduate School of Management. She also obtained a PhD in Organizational Management from Capella University. Recently, Dr. Sweet attended Duke University and earned a certificate in Nonprofit Management.

She is the author of two books, “Silent Screams from Within” and “Culture Shock”. She is currently working on her third book entitled, “In the Secret Place”. Dr. Sweet has published two peer reviewed articles on 1) the impact of leadership on job satisfaction and organizational commitment and 2) entrepreneurial best practices for professionals seeking a second career. She is currently conducting research on gender bias and counterproductive behavior in the workplace. When she is not teaching and providing consulting services, Dr. Sweet enjoys traveling, spending time with her children, reading and writing.
